Saturday, July 23rd to Saturday, July 30th 2016. Dates for your diaries, calendars, and smartphones. These are the dates of Teignmouth Carnival 2016. Your Carnival week! We are organising 8 days of entertainment and fun for you all to enjoy.
The Carnival Procession will be on Thursday 28th July, starting at 7pm. Teignmouth's Royalty Float is already in the process of being transformed into this year's theme. Shane and her Team will no doubt do us proud, as we once again represent Teignmouth on the South Devon Carnival circuit. What is the theme this year (I hear you say)? Sorry, I have been sworn to secrecy. If you want to see this year's Carnival Float make sure you come down on Carnival night. Be prepared to be impressed and dazzled by all the entries, that come to Teignmouth from near and far, as it is now one of the biggest Carnival Processions in Devon. With your support we can make it the biggest and most talked about Carnival in the area. So what are you waiting for! Thursday 28th July. Remember the date. If you do venture into town that evening remember we have entertainment available on The Den. This year's band has already been booked, and is one of the biggest and well supported in the area. And no Carnival night would be complete without the amazing Fireworks at 10pm. Look to the sky and you will see!
We have already booked most of the bands that will be performing Carnival week. We have some very talented local acts, and a couple of internationally acclaimed Tribute Acts. I can tell you that this year's Tribute Act for Friday 29th July is The Fab Beatles.
The Den area will be fenced off at some point during the week. This is to ensure the event is safe and properly managed. We will also be charging an entry fee for a few of our events. Although we would love to be able to do the week entirely free of charge, events of this size need additional monies to ensure their future.
There will be lots of entertainment and events on during Carnival week. On the opening Saturday we once again have the It's A Knockout Competition, followed by The Embezzlers (Ska Band) in the Marquee. We will also try to keep the children entertained during the week with all the usual favourites, and hopefully a few new additions this year (Let It Go!). And don't forget our established days, TGT, Services Day and our Music Extravaganza on Sat 30th July.
Teignmouth News will be putting together our carnival programme again (only £1), which will keep you up to date with everything that is going on during the week. We will also have an on-line version available again this year. This can be downloaded onto your phone/laptop/tablet via our website. We will also endeavour to keep you updated with tweets and updated Facebook status in the build up to the week, and during the week itself. So if you are not already a follower, now's your chance to become our friend on Facebook, or follow us on Twitter.
As I have already mentioned, the carnival procession will be on the Thursday, followed by local bands and the Grand Fireworks Display. Don't forget. Thursday 28th July @ 7pm.
